Shailer Park Scout Group
While not quite as long as the 100 plus years the Australia Scout movement has been in Australia, we’ve been doing all the fun stuff here at Shailer Park Scouts since July 26, 1983.
Scouting is all about developing young people physically, intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and socially and wrapping it up in a methodology primarily based on FUN, FUN and more FUN. We’re an active Scout Group providing a great way for the leaders of tomorrow to learn adventure skills and sense of community through crafts, outdoor activity and challenges.
Scouting at Shailer Park is for boys and girls from ages 6 to 26 in sections called Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, and Rovers.
|Joeys: 6 – 8 years||Tuesday nights, 6:00pm – 7:00 pm|
|Cubs: 8 – 11 years||Wednesday nights, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm|
|Scouts: 11 – 15 years||Friday nights, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm|
|Venturers: 15 – 18 years||Monday nights, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm|
|Rovers: 18 – 26 years||Tuesday nights, 7:00pm – 9:00pm|
By enrolling your child in Scouts you are giving them the opportunity for a fun educational experience above and beyond what the school system offers. In this respect, Scouting is often referred to as non-formal education.
Youth members joining the Movement from 1 April 2014 will be required to pay fees in accordance with the scale below. This fee consists of a joining fee and a membership fee. The fee payable is calculated from the date commenced with Group.
For example if you join in May, your annual fee to the Scouting Association is $166. This is in addition to the $60 per term fee payable to the Shailer Park Scout Group for the running of the den, purchase and maintenance of equipment and section activities. Scouting terms are the same as school terms.
A Youth Member who withdraws from the Movement within six (6) weeks of joining can request a full refund of the joining fee. The application for a refund must be made in writing to Queensland Scout Centre within one (1) month of the Youth Member leaving.
Youth Members Fee Schedule
Annual fee is calculated from the month you join. (It is not a per month fee).
What are your fees used for?
1. Association Fee
Supports state, federal, global admin and wonderful scout facilities all over Australia. Scouts Australia (Queensland Branch) requires that this annual association fee is collected by Shailer Park Group.
2. Shailer Park Group Fee
Keeps the Scout Den going, maintains equipment like camping and canoes.
- 60% of the term fees are used towards ‘group’ costs such as rates, electricity, leader training, etc.
- 40% of the term fees are used by the ‘section’ towards activities, badges, etc.
After the first year, discounts are applied for families with multiple youth members in scouts. To make the fees as affordable as possible and even out costs, we encourage families to pre-pay the following year’s annual fee to the Scouting Association in small sums throughout the year.
Special subsidies are available for concession cards holder. Ask the Group Leader for details.
Fees may be transferred directly into the Group account at Westpac:
Account Name: Shailer Park Scout Group
Account No: 01/11/57
Reference: Your youth members name (e.g. J Smith)
All families are asked to assist in two annual fundraising events, the proceeds of which are used towards den and equipment maintenance. If your family is time poor, which unfortunately a lot of us are, you can opt to make a cash donation to the den instead of participating in the fund raising. You need to talk to our Group Leader about this option.
New members welcome
New members are always welcome at Shailer Park. This includes young people with special needs or circumstances. If a new member decides to withdraw within six weeks of joining, Branch HQ will refund the money paid provided a written request for a refund is received within the next four weeks.
Please call 0409 726 191 or complete our contact form and we will get back to you if you are interested in coming along.
Always on the lookout for new Leaders and Helpers
We are always on the look-out for new leaders and helpers. We have all sort of roles available from leaders and assistant leaders, to committee members and helpers. No experience is needed other than a willingness to have fun and share in the excitement of scouting. The rewards of Scouting leadership are lasting and beneficial as you help guide young members into responsible and productive young adults.
Best of all, Leaders have the opportunity to take part in all the activities with the youth members!
The scouting association offers all types of self-paced training and leadership development courses. Self-paced Leader training is provided by Scouts Australia Queensland Branch, a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). Leaders in the Scouting movement have the opportunity to achieve a number of industry recognised qualifications as a result of the training provided. Qualifications can include:
